- 1. Competitors must check in and draw themselves.
- 2. A competitor may break the surface of the water prior to the start of the competition to perform the following tasks:
- To clear his swim from weed and obstructions.
To position his keepnet and tackle.
To wet and mix his groundbait.
To plumb the depth of his swim, In plumbing the depth before the start the competitor must not in any way introduce bait or groundbait into his swim. Any fish accidentally hooked while plumbing must be returned to the water and not placed in the keepnet.
- 3. A competitor must normally fish from a point not greater than 1 metre from his peg.
- 4. A competitor may wade out 1 metre from the bank or to a depth of knee height.
- 5. The fishing area (swim) shall normally be defined by points mid-way between the competitor’s peg and those of his left and right hand neighbours. In moving water the boundaries shall be from the competitors peg to that of his downstream neighbour. Any competitor found to be encroaching on another competitors swim shall be disqualified (complaints to be lodged in writing to committee- resulting in investigation).
- 6. No blooodworm or joker.
- 7. No live or dead fish (except in the case of pike match where dead bait is allowed).
- 8. No lures (as above).
- 9. Competitors are encouraged to use a limited amount of groundbait.
- 10. Competitors shall fish with a single rod (or pole), line and a single hook only, unless otherwise stated.
- 11. Poles are limited to 14 metres in total length.
- 12. No cupping in bait or groundbait while a hook is in the water in a single rod match.
- 13. Fish caught must be retained in a suitable keepnet of no less than 8 feet in length. All fish should be gently unhooked and carefully handled. All fish should, after weighing, be gently returned alive to the water. Dead fish shall not be weighed.
- 14. All species of coarse fish except Pike shall be weighed.
- 15. A competitor may not leave his peg save to answer the call of nature or by prior arrangement with the organisers. Within these provisos the angler shall not disturb other competitors. If an angler must leave his peg he must reel in and remove his hook from the water.
- 16. At the end of the competition a competitor shall have 15 minutes to land a fish hooked before the final whistle.
- 17. A competitor must be present to weigh in his catch except by prior arrangement with the organisers.
- 18. Competitors should check their weights on the scales and may be required to sign the weight sheet, confirming acceptance of the weight/score. It is the competitor’s responsibility to ensure that his weight is correct.
- 19. Objections must be submitted to the committee within 1 hour of the final whistle.
- 20. Competitors found in contravention of any of these rules, may on written objection, be disqualified without refund, receiving the maximum number of points on that given day.
- 21. If any member misses a club match during a league they will get the maximum points on that given match day depending on peg numbers. i.e. If there were ten pegs and one person didn't turn up then that angler would receive ten points, if there were two none arrivals they would both receive ten points etc.
- 22. Littered pegs, where litter is a direct result of angling, shall not be weighed.
- 23. Cavan Fishing Coarse Angling Club committee decision is final.
